Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.

Annual Wine Auction

The annual Wine Auction of the Gately Rotary Club is a prestige event on the Club's fundraising calendar and is very well supported by numerous wine estates in the Western Cape.

The auction is held under the leadership of well known wine connoisseur, Michael Fridjon, who acts as the Auctioneer, whilst an enthusiastic East London community participate eagerly in the auction.

Social events for Fellowship

Gately Rotary Club also believes in creating opportunity for its members to network and enjoy excellent fellowship with one another. Such events are typically the Beach Walk at Kidds Beach and subsequent braai at Corder Tilney's farm house.

Rotary donates six wheelchairs - Feb 2008

Six of a consignment of 5000 wheelchairs from the Rotary International British Isles were handed over on 7 February, by the Gately Rotary Club to the Valley, run by the Berea Gardens Retirement Foundation.

Annual visit by DG Lionel Heath - Feb 2008

During the recently held annual visit by District Governor Lionel Heath at the Regent Hotel in East London on 19 February 2008, a Paul Harris award was handed to Sam Nassimov, for being an exemplary Rotarian and a worthy recipient of this prestigious award.

Beachwalk / Braai at Corder Tilney - Feb 2008

At a recent outing of the Gately Rotary Club doing a beach walk from Kidds Beach to Gulu followed by a Braai at Corder Tilney's place Shellford Farms.
